The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Anger Regarding Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Reaction
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to review their products and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Updates
Previously, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - such as a large size was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
User Experiences
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
