World Series Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate over 50 million spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American average reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
